July is here, and with it comes our weekly Thursday club night, Zesty. The first event kicks off on Wednesday, July 6th, featuring DJs Suva and Miia Laine. This event showcases the eclectic selections of DJs who enjoy vintage electronic and dance music from equatorial, tropical, and subtropical regions. Immerse yourself in warm Latin, Lusophonic, and Creole sounds, along with the best of unsung innovators from Africa and Asia. Explore staple genres like zouk, cumbia, Latin house, kwaito, and dub, alongside lesser-known styles.
DJ Suva is a vibrant force in the Helsinki music scene, bringing energy, self-expression, and an inclusive celebration. With a unique selection that blends crispy Afro vinyls and hip-shaking Latin grooves, Suva creates an atmosphere that welcomes people from diverse backgrounds to revel in the power of music.
Miia Laine, a radio host, DJ, and ethnomusicologist, grew up in Berlin and studied in London. She plays soulful dance music from various decades and regions, such as disco, forró, or highlife. Since moving to Finland in 2018, Miia has showcased her sound through DJ gigs and as the host of "Kaiken Maailman Kappaleita" on Radio Helsinki.
