Kun neljä The Smithsiä fanittavaa muusikkoa perusti The Joneses -nimisen tribuuttibändin keskellä 1990-luvun lama-Suomen kurimusta, yhteys 1980-luvun thatcherismin runtelemaan Manchesteriin oli ilmeinen. The Smiths oli lyhyestä eliniästään huolimatta saanut klassikkobändin statuksen, ja niinpä The Joneses -tribuutti sai valtavan innostuneen vastaanoton fanien keskuudessa. Huolellisesti toteutettu tribuuttiprojekti esiintyi ympäri yliopistokaupunkien rock-klubeja, ja yhtyeen yleisössä nostattama The Smiths -hurmio oli legendaarinen.
Nyt The Joneses laulattaa The Smiths -faneja uudelleen, ja bändi on kovassa iskussa uudistetulla kokoonpanollaan. Alkuperäisiä jäseniä ovat Marko von Konow (laulu) ja Ykä Knuuttila (rummut) vahvistettuna tuoreilla voimilla Omar Zakik (kitara) sekä Juuso Lepistö (basso).

When four musicians who were fans of The Smiths founded a tribute band called The Joneses in the middle of the depression of Finland in the 1990s, the analogy to Manchester, ravaged by Thatcherism in the 1980s, was obvious. Despite their short life, The Smiths had achieved the status of a classic band, and so The Joneses tribute received a hugely enthusiastic reception among fans. The carefully executed tribute project appeared all over rock clubs in college towns, and the band's The Smiths craze in the audience was legendary. Now, despite their short life, the Smiths had achieved the status of a classic band. The Joneses with their renewed line-up encourage The Smiths fans to go crazy again. The original members are Marko von Konow (vocals) and Ykä Knuuttila (drums), reinforced with fresh forces Omar Zakik (guitar) and Juuso Lepistö (bass).
